Last weekend the Marketing Department hosted our first-ever “FAM Weekend”, a familiarization event for teachers, administrators and their families.  The invitation was extended to local school faculty and staff who are involved in the process of coordinating student trips. Over 40 people (seventeen teachers, their spouses and children) attended the event, which coincided perfectly with Mother’s Day weekend. Our primary goal was to familiarize them with our incredible amenities and services, as we offered complimentary meals, lodging, and an open house preview of many of our outdoor adventure and environmental education programs.

FAM Weekend Itinerary:

Friday, May 7th

3-6 pm: Registration and Check-in

6 pm: Supper Buffet

7 pm: Teacher Orientation, Group Initiatives, and Family Crafts

8 pm:  Family Interpretive Hike & Night Hike

9 pm: Campfire at Lake Laurel

Saturday, May 8th

8 am: Breakfast Buffet

9 am: Open House of Select Program Activities (Odyssey, Alpine Tower, Giant Swing, Mountain Stream Discovery, Archery)

12:30 pm: Picnic Lunch at Lake Laurel

As our guests discovered this weekend, our 1,200 acre classroom is the ideal location for educational, affordable, and fun student field trips! Overall, the event was a huge success. Thank you to all of the teachers (and their families) who joined us in creating a fun and exciting weekend. We hope to see you again in the future!

Climb on!

Marketing Staff

This month we celebrate our commitment to the YMCA and  Activate America. May is recognized as “National Physical Fitness & Sports Month”.   We observed this with an event held last week in the BRC lobby. Nurse Nancy and Nurse Jackie were available with Wii Sports & Dance, informational literature and resources about how we can all get in shape with exercise and simple changes in diet. Protein, nutrition and energy bars as well as Gatorade were available for our staff to sample.  In addition, a drawing was held for a pedometer endorsed by the President’s Council on Physical Fitness. Congrats to Tracy from  our housekeeping department was the winner! Now that the weather is warmer, grab a friend & your IPod, put on your running shoes and let’s all get moving!
