This afternoon around 25 Blue Ridge staff members, their families, and friends attended our annual Tree Trimming Party as a way to welcome in the holiday season. The event was extra special this year because several longtime Blue Ridge conference guests, FCA Southeast Camp Directors, assisted us in decorating the tree. We really appreciated their enthusiasm and willingness to help.
The tree, a majestic 10 foot Fraser Fir, was stationed on the south end of the Blue Ridge Center lobby. Christmas music played in the background to set the festive mood. It seemed that everyone was able to get involved in the decorating fun and it was an exciting experience for both children and adults alike. It was particularly wonderful seeing Roger wear his “Rudolph” visor (pictured below).
Two ladders and dozens of helping hands assisted in hanging all of the tinsel, garland, and ornaments that were laid out. While some of the staff climbed ladders, tied bows, or hung pine cones, others preferred to sit back and watch, take pictures, or enjoy the refreshments. There was delicious hot cider, hot cocoa, chocolate chip cookies, pumpkin muffins, and even Melissa’s famous homemade banana bread.
With the exception of the all-important tree topper (a beautiful gold bow) the tree was fully “trimmed” in about an hour. Our Christmas tree is especially unique because we were able to decorate it with old prints of black and white photographs from the Blue Ridge archives. It will remain in the lobby for the next month, not only providing a visual reminder of the joyful holiday season, but also of the remarkable history and beauty of YMCA Blue Ridge Assembly.
Today’s tree-trimming party was a the perfect way to bring the staff together and unite everyone in the warm holiday spirit. Thank you to everyone who came out to share in this tradition and help celebrate the Christmas season! Please check back soon as we post more pictures of this wonderful event.
